Success Strategies for the Weekend

Plan your weekend to get the most of your time.

What are you doing for the weekend? The week has come to an end and you’re looking forward to a relaxing weekend ahead…or the mad scramble around the mall to buy Christmas presents (the clock is ticking!). If you’re committed to your physique, you can’t just workout and eat right during the week and make it a free-for-all on the weekend.  5 out of 7 isn’t bad, but it probably won’t get you to your best physique.

That’s not to say that you can’t be more flexible on the weekends – you can! – but if you totally throw your usual guidelines out the window on Saturday and Sunday you won’t improve from week to week.  Sure, have a cheat meal or two, but keep your diet on track the rest of the weekend.  If you’re already extremely lean or close to your ideal physique then you might even be able to get away with a full cheat DAY.

Just don’t sabotage yourself in your early days of progress by straying too often. If you’re working out consistently from Monday-Friday it might be ok to give yourself a rest from training on the weekends, but it’s always best to stay active (even if that means racing around the mall) rather than parking yourself in front of the couch to watch hours of sports.

Winter sports like skating, tobogganing, or skiing can be a great way to get outdoors and spend quality time with friends and family.  Keeping active means your body stays in motion and is more likely to feel ready to face your workout routine on Monday. Keep in mind that sneaking in a gym session first thing in the morning on the weekend can be a great way to start the weekend off on an energetic note.

You might be less rushed than you are during the week so you can squeeze in a few extra sets of your favourite exercise and actually do those stretches at end that you’re supposed to be doing after each session.

Weekend training can be a great boost to your energy and a timely reminder of your physique goals before heading out for a few drinks in the evening. Whatever your plans for the weekend, make sure you keep your daily and weekly physique goals in mind when you make them.
