You’re just starting out. That’s ok. 

There comes a time in life when we’re forced to start from the beginning. If you’re learning a new skill or you’ve returned to your fitness routine after a layoff due to illness, injury, or having a baby, it’s often hard to figure out how to get started again.

How can you start things from scratch, when you’re really not sure where to begin?

Decide What you Want to Achieve

First you need to decide on your goal. What are you hoping to achieve on this journey? Are you looking to lose 20 pounds, qualify for the Regional Finals in squash, compete in a bodybuilding competition, or get back to your pre-pregnancy shape? Figure out what you’re trying to do so that you have a clear vision of your path.

Start Slow!

Start from where you’re at now…not from where you were before your injury, illness, or long layoff. Take baby steps and don’t push yourself too hard at the beginning. You’ll only get frustrated and burn yourself out. If you’ve been out of the game for a while, make sure that you take it easy on yourself upon your return. If you start off right, with patience, you’ll progress to your destination faster than you would have expected.

The most important thing is that you’re back in the game.
